Expert Review
From the LendingTree editorial team, updated on Mar 25, 2024
The new Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card is a fantastic card for the frequent flyer on Southwest Airlines, as well as a great card all around for consumers looking for competitive travel rewards. The value in this card can be seen right away — cardholders can earn 50,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.
Not only is this sign up bonus excellent, but the ongoing rewards rate is pretty impressive too: Receive 7,500 anniversary points, 4 upgraded boardings per year when available, and a $75 Southwest® travel credit each year. Enjoy benefits including 3X points on Southwest purchases, 2X points on local transit and commuting, including rideshare, 2X points on internet, cable, and phone services; select streaming, 10,000 Companion Pass® qualifying points boost each year, and more. This card also offers several other benefits, including extra rewards on your sign-up anniversary and extra back on purchases made in-flight, like on drinks or movies. This card has a lot to offer, especially for frequent Southwest customers!
This card is also practical — it comes with a $0 foreign transaction fee, which allows you to swipe your card overseas without getting hit with an extra charge. The annual fee is $149, but the perks and rewards you earn can easily help offset that cost.
The Good
- The annual fee for this card is nearly offset by the annual $75 travel credit and the 7,500 bonus points after the first year, which means this is a fairly low-cost card that offers a competitive rewards rate, and an exceptionally beneficial sign-up bonus.
The Not So Good
- The annual fee is higher than some of the competition, and it isn't waived the first year. Also, you'll need excellent credit to get approved.
The Bottom Line
If you're already an existing customer for Southwest Airlines and don't mind an annual fee, this is absolutely a great card to carry to boost your Rapid Rewards bottom line.
