If you're looking for a simple credit card to help you build credit, the AvantCard Credit Card could be a great option. This card comes with a small annual fee of $59, but it is an unsecured credit card which means you won't have to put down a security deposit to get approved.

This card is available to consumers with less than great credit and it reports to all three major credit bureaus – that means that with responsible use you could build your credit score over time. Cardholders will also love that there are no hidden fees and no penalty rate. The AvantCard Credit Card keeps things simple so you can focus on building credit.

There are even no foreign transaction fees with this card. That's a rare feature on cards available to consumers with less than great credit. Also, since this card is a Mastercard, you can rest assured that you'll be able to use it anywhere in the world where Mastercard is accepted. The ongoing APR is fairly high at 35.99% so it would be best to pay your balance off in full each month.

The Good

  • The annual fee is fairly low compared to other cards. Plus you'll pay no foreign transaction fees and there is no penalty rate.

The Not So Good

  • The APR is quite high, so if you don't pay off your balance in full each month you could rack up steep interest charges.

The Bottom Line

This card is a solid choice for consumers who don't want to put down $200 or more as a security deposit on a secured credit card.
