From the LendingTree.com Editorial Team

The Capital One Platinum Credit Card is made for those who want a card with Platinum Mastercard benefits, but only have average credit and cannot qualify for a better card option. There is no annual fee for this card, which is pretty rare for a card that doesn't require excellent credit to get approved. There is no balance transfer fee, which is nice, but there's also no intro balance transfer APR, so the APR sits at 26.99% (Variable).

The real reason to get the Capital One Platinum Credit Card is to have a real Mastercard with features like text alerts to keep you informed about your account, $0 Fraud Liability if your card is lost or stolen, travel accident insurance, an extended warranty program, and more.

The Bottom Line

If you have fair credit then this card gives you a way to enjoy the perks and features of a Mastercard, despite your less than stellar credit. The interest rate is pretty high, but there is no annual fee, no surcharge for doing a balance transfer, and you have access to some helpful account management tools.

The Good

The good thing about this particular card is that it allows someone to have a genuine Mastercard when they do not really have great credit. It's a great first-time credit card.

The Not So Good

The interest rate is high and if you carry a balance that can get really expensive, really fast. You should pay your balance in full each month with this card because of the 26.99% (Variable) APR.

This card is awesome. They raised my credit limit from $300 to $3,300. Note, it took four years and I never requested a credit limit. I simply waited and let it happen on its own. It could have happened earlier but I didn’t always exercise prudence in keeping my spending under one-third of my available balance AND paying my account on time. However, over the last six months I became aggressive in paying off my balance in full and never carrying a balance. If I used the card, I paid the item off as soon as it posted. That’s the key. Don’t wait for the statement to arrive in the mail. Pay off your balances as you accumulate them . It’s also a good way to limit your spending. You won’t spend what you can’t pay off immediately.

This card is a life-saver. Their services are great. They understand circumstances and are willing to help anyone who has a issue when it comes to payments, purchases etc. Keep up the good work.

I applied for a credit card with Capital One. I was denied for the one I wanted. Then they pre-approved me for this one. I made all my payments one time. Now my credit limit is $500.00. I am just happy a company is giving me a chance to show I will pay them back Thanks Capital One.

A good card for people with no credit, allows you to build credit wisely and track your credit score for free! You can also upgrade to a Venture card after 5 months of on-time payments.
